My whole book came from me trying to process loss of different kinds of… mum and dads passing, loss of identity at different points, loss of friendships we outgrow , loss of career , etc
But from this came a truly hopeful book which gives you a warm hug and makes you believe you can hold and work through grief.
I think Love Labour and Loss would help you 💙
You are right in trying to be honest about it now. Truly the hardest part for me was knowing my dad was fading 8 years ago, seeing my hero and best friend weaken and us not knowing why. Once we knew and it happened we dealt with it, the fear is far worse. 💙
That sounds like a wonderful book, and I’m so glad you were able to create something from your loss.
It’s so difficult because Nan is still here with us but her mind isn’t what it was and the changes that go with it are hard to navigate.
I agree, the fear is worse and what life will look like after she’s gone is on my mind. I try to be positive that she’s here and she is ok, but the pain outweighs the positive. It’s far heavier.
Heartbreaking 💔 my grandma had dementia and died 7 years ago. 😔 It was one of the hardest periods of life. The pain never goes away, but it gets quieter with time. Sending you strength and good energy 🤍
Going through this with my mom, we can be in the middle of a nice conversation and then she will accuse housekeeping of stealing her red and green pens, or toilet paper (just sheets, not rolls), or something else that either she has forgotten where she put it, or her mind has made up. The other day she called and asked if I had been in her apartment. I reminded her that I had been there with my grandkids for lunch two days earlier. She then said that something was missing in her laundry room. When I asked what, she said she didn't know, but there was an empty space. I reminded her we had a few before cleaned out her laundry room and she had given me a bunch of cleaning supplies because she has housekeeping and they do her laundry. I told her to call me when she remembered what was missing. It is definately a new journey for both of us, and all we can do is take it day by day and sometimes moment by moment.
Sometimes when I talk to my nan on the phone she starts a sentence then it trails off into gibberish. I go with it because I don’t see the point in trying to get her to explain herself because she probably doesn’t remember what she was trying to say.
It is a new journey for us as well, it’s quite jarring at the moment and I’m doing what I can to get through it.
Know this all too well, one moment at a time is all you /we can do...I recall one day at a time was too much to ask... so take it minute by minute, I feel you.
Oh Hannah I'm truly sorry to hear about what you've been going through. I wish I can give you the biggest hug. I'm sending you and your grandma so much love hugs and healing ❤️🤗🙏
